How to Make 2019 Your Healthiest Year Yet
Make 2019 the year you take these small (and easy!) steps toward long-term weight loss
As we watch the ball drop each New Year’s Eve, many of us make the silent choice to live the next year as our healthiest one yet. But one trap that many of us fall into with those silent resolutions is creating big, sweeping decisions that we run towards at full speed, only to stop a few months later confused and out of gas.
One of the best ways to assure that 2019 is different, and is indeed your healthiest year yet, is to abandon those giant, unattainable goals and instead focus on the positive baby steps and small victories you can make every day, every week, and every month.
The Small Steps to Positive Weight Loss
For instance, if you want 2019 to be the year you finally lose the weight you’ve been trying to shed forever, there are a few smaller resolutions you can make that can lead to big achievements.
Resolve to Drink More Water: In 2014, the Food and Nutrition Board released their recommendations for daily water intake: healthy adult women should try to drink at least 2.7 liters of water a day, while adult men should try for at least 3.7 liters a day. Imagine how good you would feel if you resolved to drink at least this much every day in 2019!
Eliminate Unhealthy Foods Slowly: Instead of making a sweeping statement to yourself like, “I’m not eating sweets after meals anymore,” consider slowly omitting one unhealthy food per month or every couple of months. Maybe in January you give up soda and in February it’s cookies. This slow progression will help your body get used to the changes.
Have Fun With Movement: Physical activity is important, but instead of deciding you’ll now be going to the gym every single day, maybe make a resolution to simply move every day. It doesn’t matter if that movement is a brisk walk, a yoga video, a kickboxing class, or lifting weights at the gym. All that matters is that you move and enjoy it!
As you can see, breaking down big weight loss resolutions into small, achievable goals makes the whole thing less intimidating, and allows you to feel like you’re progressing every single day!
Speaking of progress, if you fall off the wagon a few times during the year, don’t worry. Everybody falters, and what matters is that you see your journey for what it is: a journey towards your healthiest self. Alli wants to help you on that journey. For every five pounds you lose from dieting alone, Alli can help you lose two to three more, when used in combination with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet, and when used as directed.
